The House. ThistleDown House is a Craftsman-style heritage home built in the 1920’s which was converted into a Bed and Breakfast in 1997 to welcome guests from all around the world.

Location. ThistleDown House Bed and Breakfast is ideally situated in the District of North Vancouver. Set in a half-acre of lawns and gardens, it is an oasis of rest and relaxation away from the bustle of the City, yet only minutes from its centre. Located close to Grouse Mountain, Capilano Suspension Bridge and more.

Bed & Breakfast. ThistleDown House is a licenced 6-bedroom Bed and Breakfast. Each room is tastefully decorated, staying guests find their favourite spot in the house or the garden to relax and each stay is complete with complimentary breakfast, Wi-Fi, self-parking and much more.

Memberships & Associations. ThistleDown House is active members of the BC innkeepers Guild and the Vancouver North Shore Bed and Breakfast Association.

ThistleDown House is an adult orientated Bed and Breakfast. We recognize that our guests wish to be surrounded by a tranquil and romantic environment. Although we love children, our accommodation’s focus is on creating an ambiance for couples. However, we welcome children over the age of 12 years old.

We have two of our own dogs and sadly they do not wish to share their home with other pets. Please inquire if you require assistance looking for a pet friendly accommodation.

How to find the house?

As you drive up north on Capilano Road for 2 km/1.2 mi, staying on the left lane, you will see the Capilano Suspension Bridge Attraction on the left. Continue driving for 300 m/0.2 mi, you will see Edgemont Boulevard on the right. ThistleDown House is three houses up on the right as the road curves left. Look for the two stone posts with Christmas Lights on top.

Check-In. Check-in time is between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Arrivals outside this time may be accommodated by prior arrangement.

Check-out. Check-out time is 11:00 a.m. Late check-out may be available upon request.

Breakfast. Our gourmet breakfast is served in the dining room between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. Should you have special dietary requirements, please advise us.

Facilities

Wi-Fi. Complimentary hi-speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the house and in guest rooms.

Parking. complimentary onsite self parking is available to our guests. We recommend parking your car onsite, pick up a coupon and walk to the Capilano Suspension Bridge.

Food & Drink

Breakfast. A multi-course breakfast is prepared in a gourmet European-style which consists of a starter, a fruit dish and a main. It’s more like a petit dinner than just breakfast. It is important for us to know if any of the guest in the party has food allergies or any dietary requirements.

Butler’s Pantry. We have a Butler’s Pantry designed with our guests’ need in mind. In it you will find a selection of teas, coffees, snacks and chilled filtered water. At your disposal, there are china, utensils and glasses. Ice is available upon request.

Kettle. There is an electric kettle at our Butler’s Pantry.

Guest Fridge. We have a guest fridge for our guests’ use to chill or store perishable items.

Services

Business station. The house has a small library with a public computer and a printer for our guests use.

Telephone. A guest phone can be found in the library.

Laundry. A same day in-house service is available (surcharge applies). Please advise us of your needs by 10:00 a.m.

Concierge service. We are here for your traveling needs from suggesting activities, providing bus schedules, making dinner reservations, to arranging for an early morning taxi.

Features

Library. one can find attraction coupons, local maps, a good assortment of tour/attraction books for reference and a paperback “book exchange” in our small library.

The Garden. Enjoy our English garden, strategically designed to provide separate seating areas for privacy to soak in the afternoon sun or have a picnic in the shade under the rustic apple tree.

Other information

Smoking. ThistleDown House is a smoke-free environment. There are verandas, decks, balcony, and the garden for smoking.

Pest prevention. We regularly implement pest/bed bug preventative programs with human and pet safe products to insure the comfort of our guests’ stay.

Behind the scenes. Every spring and fall, our housekeepers turn the house inside out and do a thorough clean of all the rooms and the entire house. Carpet and rugs are also regularly washed as part of our seasonal cleaning program.

Capilano Suspension Bridge

Just a 5 minutes walk. We offer coupons for the Suspension Bridge. The Capilano Suspension Bridge is the oldest tourist attraction in the city (originally constructed in 1889), and the 450-foot-long, 230-foot-high bridge offers spectacular views of the Capilano River below.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at ThistleDown House. Listed below are ThistleDown House policies and procedures, please read them carefully.
By reading and signing your registration card at check-in or by booking a reservation on our website, you are agreeing to abide by all ThistleDown House policies and procedures and accepting all responsibility for the reservation.

CHECK-IN

Check-in is between 4 PM To 6PM. Guest will be required to present a valid piece of government issued photo ID and on request valid credit card.

CHECK-OUT

Check-out is at 11 AM. If you require a later check-out, please contact us before 9 am on the day of departure, and we will do our best to accommodate. Early and late check-ins are not guaranteed. Charges may be applicable.

CANCELLATION POLICY

All room reservations have a 10 days cancellation policy; If guest cancel before 10 days, they will be refunded back  CAD $85.00 from the deposit. Any changes and cancellations must be made 10 days prior 12 pm noon (PST). Cancellations received within the 10 days period will be marked as a no show and will incur on guest reservation booking and tax charge to the credit card on file.

PET POLICIES

Pets are not allowed. Should it be determined that any pets are in or on the property a charge of $500.00 will be applied. Excessive disturbance or damages have taken place, ThistleDown House reserves the right to charge any damage to the Guest or Reservation holder. The Guest or Reservation holder also acknowledges and agrees that amount will not limit the right of the ThistleDown House to exercise or pursue any remedy available in law or in equity for breach of this agreement, including, but not limited to, damages on appliances or finishes, furniture, or any other costs or losses resulting from the negligence of the Guest or Reservation holder and their Pets.

SMOKING POLICIES

We are a non-smoking Bed and Breakfast. Smoking is prohibited at all times. If smoking has taken place in the house, a cleaning charge of $500.00 will be applied.

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Guests must be 19 years or older to check in without a parent or legal guardian. A valid government issued photo ID must be presented at the time of check in for age verification and on request valid credit card.

NO IN-ROOM PARTY POLICY

NO PARTYING ALLOWED AT ANY TIME. To ensure the enjoyment and to protect the ThistleDown House and our guests, this policy is strictly enforced. In the event of a disturbance one warning will be given to reduce noise. If this warning is not followed, the guest will forfeit all fees and must leave the ThistleDown House immediately.

PAYMENT POLICY:

In order for guest accommodations to be confirmed, at the time of check in all sufficient credit credentials for payment must be provided.
When a debit or credit card is presented for authorization, please be advised that a pre-authorization maybe be taken. Any applicable guest room charges, and taxes will be placed on the authorized credit card.

If determined that damages have taken place at the ThistleDown House by the Guest, the Hotel reserves all right to deduct from the Security Deposit/Pre-Authorization. The Guest also acknowledges and agrees that the Security Deposit amount will not limit the right of the ThistleDown House to exercise or pursue any remedy available in law or in equity for breach of this agreement, including, but not limited to, damages on appliances or finishes, furniture, or any other costs or losses resulting from the negligence of the Guest.
The Guest hereby also agrees that any lost or damaged keys, TV remotes, blow dryers, irons, will be replaced at Guest(s) cost and will be deducted. The penalty for lost keys is $100.

MAKING A RESERVATION?

When making a reservation or using our services it is necessary to have information in order to identify you, contact you and to process your purchase and requests. It may also include, if you choose to share that information with us, your preferences regarding the delivery of your service such as type of room, type of bed, and the like.

You may wish to have your purchase of our services recognized in a third party’s loyalty program with which we have a relationship. To do so will require you providing us certain verification information such as your membership number in the third-party program.

We may also offer special discounts from time to time that may have qualifying criteria. Sometimes we offer special offers to, for example, seniors or for children. To assess your eligibility and process your reservation correctly, we may record your date of birth at the time of booking. You may be required to provide personal identification with your date of birth in order to verify this upon check-in.

From time to time, we offer packages or other services that involve third parties. If you are partaking of such a package or service, your personal information will be shared with that third party to the extent necessary to provide that service and process the purchase or request. We may use the information you provide to send you offers and information about our services and those of select third parties as well as newsletters and shared content that may be of interest to you.

If you do not wish to receive such offers and information you may unsubscribe or opt-out by sending an email to opt-out@thistledownhouse.ca , using the subject line “Unsubscribe”, so indicating your request with sufficient personal identifiers so we can appropriately act on your request. All our marketing communication of this type will also contain instructions for unsubscribing.

Individuals interested in sharing their experiences at our hotels may wish to do so through our websites. Although registration is not required to view the site, it is required to enable sharing and other functions on that website. The personal information you provide during registration is used to validate your identity and to enable us to manage and administer your contributions
to the website, and to contact you regarding your contributions or use of the website.

We may also use your information to contact you about updates or changes to the website, shared content that may be of interest to you, or other offers and information related to our Bed and Breakfast or marketing partners whose products and services may be of interest to you.

INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US IN COMMUNICATIONS REGARDING SERVICE DELIVERY SUCH AS COMMENT CARDS AND CUSTOMER SURVEYS

Information provided to us in such a fashion will be used solely for the purpose of recording your comments, communicating with you in respect of them, reviewing them with the subject Bed and Breakfast and Bed and Breakfast personnel, for the purposes of recognizing employees for excellence of service delivery and for developing improvements in service delivery.

  5.  Personal information may be shared with a third party retained by us to perform functions on our behalf such as reservations handling, data processing or storage, guest surveys or research, and the distribution of email or other forms of communication.
  6. Personal information may be shared with an agent retained by us to evaluate a customer’s credit worthiness or in order to collect a customer’s account.
  7.  Personal information may be shared with a public authority or an agent of public authority if in our reasonable judgment it appears that there is an imminent danger to life or property which could be avoided or minimized by disclosure of the information, or which disclosure is compelled by legal authority.
